Skilled gardener and inspired photographer, Rhoda Maurer, will share her 25 years of photographic experience and engage participants with varied new and underused techniques for digital cameras. For either or both sessions students are required to bring: digital camera and its associated equipment (i.e. filters, tripod, etc.) and adequate memory card. Registration is limited to 10 per session. Rhoda is the Collections Documentation and Projects Manager for the Scott Arboretum. Her images appear in Scott Arboretum publications as well as Horticulture Magazine, Green Scene, Fine Gardening, and John Grimshaw’s recent book, New Trees. Session One will cover topics such as: composition, filters, exposure compensation, white balance, shutter speed, and depth of field. This class is aimed towards those with knowledge of their camera's functions: please review your manual before class. Certain functions such as aperture and shutter priorities will be reviewed and it will be important that your camera has these manual functions. Time will be spent in the classroom, outdoors shooting photos, and critiquing each others work. Session Two will be an opportunity to explore your own creative vision using the techniques learned in Session One. Time will be spent in discussion, photographing, creative exercises, and critiquing with Rhoda’s guidance. If you are already comfortable using the techniques outlined in Session One, you can sign up for Session Two.
