Delaware’s tall ship will be in residence at Independence Seaport Museum for a series of sails, public deck tours, and Museum activities, Friday, Sept. 11-Sunday, Sept. 13. This magnificent recreation of a 17th century Dutch pinnace boasts a 10-story high mainmast, 7,800 square feet of sails, nine miles of rigging, and four cannons. Embark on a family pirate sail 9:30-11:30 am Saturday, Sept. 12, or a family Swedish Viking sail 9:30-11:30 am Sunday, Sept. 13 -- snacks included on both family sails! Or enjoy wine, light fare, evening breezes, and opportunity to mingle with friends under the rose-colored sky as the sun sets on special adults-only sails Friday, Sept. 11, and Saturday, Sept. 12, 5-7 pm. Pre-registration is required for all sails. After the Sunday Viking sail the Kalmar Nyckel will be docked outside the Museum and open for free deck tours 1-5 pm, while inside the Museum there will be a host of make-and-take Viking crafts and activities in conjunction with the American Swedish Historical Museum. (Membership or general admission fee applies for in-Museum activities).
