Dance With Camera Cinema Program
November 18, 2009
With iconic dance films, ranging from Busby Berkeley's Hollywood musicals to Maya Deren's avant-garde films, the screenings in this cinema program exemplify the ways dance has compelled visual artists to record bodies moving in time and space.
Top Hat (Mark Sandrich, 1935, 101 Minutes)
Singin' In The Rain (Stanley Donen/Gene Kelly, 1952,
103 minutes)
All screenings held at International House, 3701 Chestnut Street
This evening's film screening is preceded by a special introductory debate: Astaire or Kelly? Andrew Douglas, Director of Education, Bryn Mawr Film Institute, and Paula Marantz Cohen, Distinguished Professor of English, Drexel University, attempt to settle this age-old debate.
