How’s this for a summit meeting? Three genre-bending virtuosos on their respective instruments who move with ease among the worlds of classical, bluegrass, and world music join forces for the first time in trio concerts of original music. Béla Fleck is the premiere banjo player in the world and has won eight Grammys, both with his own Flecktones as well as with others. Edgar Meyer is not only the preeminent string bassist of his time but also a noted composer and arranger and part of the famous Appalachia Waltz Trio (with Yo-Yo Ma and Mark O’Connor). Zakir Hussain is an instrumental phenomenon, the undisputed master of the tabla, and widely considered the chief architect of the contemporary world music movement, whose Percussion Masters of India concerts have been a regular feature of McCarter’s world music presentations. Put all three of them together on the same stage, and you have a recipe for musical magic.
