OUTDOORS

The Chester County Astronomical Society Honors Galileo and Kepler
August 22, 2009
This 2009 International Year of Astronomy event honors Galileo and Kepler as 400 years ago they made their amazing discoveries. Members of the CCAS will start off the evening with several short presentations on current events in astronomy, including an update on exoplanets and the lack of sunspots. Expert guidance will be given on the different types of telescopes and how to find one that will work well for a beginner. The group will have their telescopes set up and pointed at various interesting objects in the sky. Jupiter and the moon should be visible, as should galaxies, clusters, double stars, passing satellites, and maybe even some meteors. It promises to be an interesting and educational event. The presentations and a general astronomy Q&A will be held even if the skies are partly cloudy. However, in the event of heavy clouds or rain the event will be postponed. Call the park at 610 892-3908 to get an update on the event.
