Concrete, Steele & Paint
September 11, 2009
Cindy Burstein and Tony Heriza screen their documentary Concrete, Steel & Paint (2009, 54 min). When men in a prison art class propose painting an outdoor mural they run into resistance. Crime victims and victim advocates question the project and its message. Working with the City of Philadelphia’s Mural Arts Program, the groups then struggle together to create a mural about crime, restoration and healing. The result is more than they expect. Discussion afterwards with the filmmakers, project participants and restorative justice advocates.
