Set in 1929, just before the Depression, Anna in the Tropics centers on a Cuban American family and the cigar factory that provides their livelihood in Ybor City, Florida. Told as a romantic allegory, the show raises questions about the nature of the American dream, the mechanization of the American worker, and the place of literature and intellect in a consumer based society. "Anna in the Tropics" was the 2003 Pulitzer Prize winner for drama.
