Enjoy a day of family fun at Independence Seaport Museum's Second Annual Wooden Boat Festival! The festival will have a turn-of-the-century Fourth of July flair -- all Dads get a patriotic skimmer hat, Moms a patriotic fan, and kids beaded necklaces of red, white, and blue (while supplies last!). The whole family will delight in the beautiful wooden vessels moored in the marina just outside the Museum, including garveys, sloops, sneakboxes, canoes, tuckups, skiffs, Delaware Duckers, and more. Children can build toy boats, make American flags and braids of rope, and participate in a treasure hunt and an art contest. Demonstrations will include ship caulking, rope-tying, and wooden steam bending in the boat shop. Plus, plus enjoy sea shanty performances, ship models by the Philadelphia Ship Model Society, mini remote control boats, and behind-the-scene tours of the Cruiser Olympia and World War II Submarine Becuna. Free raffle for a family Seaport membership ($45 value), a boat-building class ($300 value), and an Education Fun Basket (priceless!)
