General George Gordon Meade, David Rittenhouse, Henry Deringer, Peter Widener—the list of Laurel Hill Cemetery’s renowned and remembered men goes on and on… But what about the ladies of Laurel Hill? What about the women buried here? This program is all about them—from the more familiar, such as Sarah Josepha Hale, Godey’s Lady’s Book editor, and Elizabeth Hutter, Civil War nurse—to the less well-known, but equally important, like the writer, Lucy Hamilton Hooper, the archeologist, Sarah Yorke Stevenson, and Mary Engle Pennington, whose work made it possible to transport fresh milk—and later, beer—nationwide. Join Laurel Hill as they remember and celebrate the achievements of these remarkable women, among so many others. The Ladies of the Hill will be guided by Carol Yaster, independent researcher, archivist and President of the Friends of Laurel Hill Cemetery.
