Join Andrew Bunting for a detailed look at the many excellent succulent plants that are both ornamental and great for the water-wise garden. In the past several years the Arboretum has amassed a significant collection of hardy, North American cacti from high elevation areas of several western states. Many of these cacti are species of Opuntia3. In the class, you will review in depth O. basilaris, O. fragilis, O. humifusa, O. macrorhiza, O. phaeacantha, O. polyacantha and O. whipplei. In addition to reviewing hardy cacti, the class will explore other hardy succulents such as Yucca, Agave, Hesperaloe, Sedum, Sempervivum and Euphorbia. All class participants will receive a "pad" from the arboretum's cactus collection that they can plant in their home garden. This class will include plant fact sheets of the cacti and succulents featured in the class. Dress for the weather and walking. Registration is limited to 24 and includes lunch.
