Skin and Bones: Tattoos in the Life of the American Sailor
April 23, 2009-January 3, 2010
Be among the first to see the premiere of a provocative new exhibit that delves into the beliefs, traditions, and power of the tattoo in American maritime culture! Tattoos were introduced to this country by seamen, so if you have a tattoo today, thank a sailor.
The exhibit features tattoo designs, tools, historic photographs and artifacts, along with video stories of contemporary tattooed sailors, and a unique interactive "tattoo parlor" dubbed the "Tattoo-a-Tron." Why a pig and rooster? Come to the exhibit and find out.
