Come and celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as newly-inaugurated Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads The Philadelphia Orchestra in a free community concert. This afternoon of music, readings, and reflection will bring together community groups and notable guest artists including Jeri Lynne Johnson, founder and music director of Philadelphia’s own Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra. Nearly 50 years after Dr. King’s legendary “I Have a Dream” speech, award-winning storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston recites these powerful words over Samuel Barber’s haunting Adagio for Strings. Also featured on the program are violinist and Sphinx Competition winner Elena Urioste and the Philadelphia All City Choir under the direction of Dorina Morrow.

A limited number of tickets will be made available beginning Monday, January 7, 2013.

Seating is general admission and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Limit four FREE tickets per person. Doors open at 3:15 PM.
