THEATRE
Global Shakespeare: Antony and Cleopatra
November 16, 2012
He may be England’s national poet, but Shakespeare is truly a global phenomenon. Shakespeare’s plays have been performed all over the world, and his works continue to be adapted and reimagined to speak to historically and culturally specific contexts that are very different from those of renaissance England. This interactive performance lecture will explore the universal and global appeal of Shakespeare, focusing on performances and adaptations of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
