In 1876 twenty million people from around the world visited the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, one of the first world’s fairs. Much of today’s West Fairmount Park is still informed by the monumental event that was took place on 450 acres here over a century ago. Join horticulturist and garden writer Nicole Juday for an exploration of the Centennial landscape, which was one of the major attractions of the Exposition. Many features of this original landscape remain for those who know where to find them. Stops will include the Centennial Arboretum, the Horticultural Center, Memorial Hall, and Lansdowne Glen. Lunch is included in the trip fee and will be served at the Centennial Café at Ohio House, one of the few remaining Centennial structures. We will meet at the Arboretum and travel by bus.
