The purpose of this class is to teach participants the skills needed to identify vascular plants to the species level. You will learn to carefully observe critical features of plants. You will practice using dichotomous keys and gain exposure to important botanical terms that are essential for identifying plants. Our primary text will be The Plants of Pennsylvania: An Illustrated Manual (2nd ed.) by Rhoads and Block. You will need a hand lens or other small magnifier. A small metric scale ruler will also be useful. These items will be available for purchase.
