Join us for a full day Indian Art Symposium held in collaboration with the opening of the TCNJ Art Gallery exhibit Goddess, Lion, Peasant, Priest: Modern and Contemporary Indian Art from the Shelley and Donald Rubin Private Collection. In addition to the launch of the gallery exhibition, we are hosting Indian dancers, lectures by three college professors who specialize in Indian Art and Art History: Dr. Rebecca Brown from Johns Hopkins, Dr. Tejaswini Ganti from NYU, and Ms. Kathryn Myers from the University of Connecticut. We are also bringing in Abhijit Banerjee and the TARANG Ensemble, world famous Indian percussionists to lecture during the normal Brown Bag time, 11:30 am-12:20 pm. In addition, they will host a full Saturday night performance on October 20th. Abhijit Banerjee is one of the world's top tabla players. He has toured extensively, recorded numerous CDs, and has taught courses and seminars worldwide. Apart from his contributions to Indian music he has left his mark in a diverse field of world crossover music both as a performer and composer. He founded TARANG, a group of five world class percussionists, who perform percussion through an entire spectrum of sound and transform the complicated rhythmical structures effortlessly into a musical form.

This symposium is free and open to the public.
