Sonny Hand, an Idaho resident originally from New Jersey, is the author of the book, One Good Regiment, the 13th Pennsylvania Cavalry in the Civil War, 1861-1865. Mr. Hand will be selling copies of his book at the Grundy Library program. He states, “[t]his is not a work of fiction, and the proudest day to me was when the U.S. Army purchased a copy directly from me, for their [US War College] library in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.” Two Medal of Honor recipients who were part of the 13th Pennsylvania Cavalry are Sgt. Daniel Caldwell, and Pvt. Michael Dougherty. A statue honoring Irish immigrant Pvt. Dougherty’s service to the Union is located in Bristol, PA.
