This fall, The Clay Studio will undertake an exciting project that explores the relevance of handmade dinnerware in the 21st century. The project includes two exhibitions, lectures, and a public project titled the Guerilla Mug Assault. One exhibition is focused on the tableware of Derek Au, and the other is a group exhibition titled Pots at Rest, both scheduled to run from August 17th-September 30th 2012.
With the Pots at Rest exhibition, we asked eight makers to each curate a collection of pots, when not in use, for a specific piece of kitchen furniture assigned to them. In total, there will be nine “exhibitions” within this singular exhibition, the ninth fixture being curated by The Clay Studio’s Gallery staff and displaying an object made by each of the invited artist/curators.

The artist/curators selected for the project are: Kari Radasch, Ingrid Bathe, Elizabeth Robinson, Lorna Meaden, Brian Jones, Munemitsu Taguchi, Matthew Hyleck, and Joseph Pintz.

The Clay Studio was honored to be a 2012 Knight Foundation Arts Challenge recipient for this project. From the more than 1,260 applicants submitted, ours was one of thirty-five to receive funding.
