Dinner & Movie at Whole Foods Market Jenkintown
June 26, 2012
As part of Whole Foods Market’s month-long campaign to highlight the global bee crisis, the organic grocer in Jenkintown will be hosting a dinner and showing of Queen of the Sun: What are the Bees Telling Us?, the third film in this year’s Do Something Reel Film Festival. A question and answer session will immediately follow the film with author Aaron Birk, author of The Pollinator’s Corridor.
All ticket sales benefit The Hiway Theatre in Jenkintown.
Taking the viewer on a journey through the catastrophic disappearance of bees, the film, directed by Taggart Siegel, explores the mysterious world of the beehive. It weaves an unusual and dramatic story of the heartfelt struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world including Michael Pollan, Gunther Hauk and Vandana Shiva. Together they reveal both the problems and the solutions in renewing a culture in balance with nature.
To further support the film’s mission, Whole Foods Market has partnered with Crowdrise to help those inspired by the storyline to take action in several ways including donating to Spikenard Farm and Honeybee Sanctuary: http://www.crowdrise.com/QueenoftheSun. CrowdRise is a platform that provides fundraisers, charities and events with a unique way to raise money and share compelling stories with personal networks, allowing anyone to turn friends into an active base of donors for a cause.
Do Something Reel, which kicked off on Earth Day, is an ongoing collection of provocative films about food and environmental issues that can be purchased and streamed online at www.dosomethingreel.com for a limited time.
