Imperfect Gallery, a new community based exhibition space for local, national, and international artists, will open in Germantown with a special exhibit featuring all Germantown artists. There's Something About Germantown... will feature over 30 artists that live in the Germantown neighborhood, kicking off the first in a three part inauguration of the new gallery, which is located at 5601 Greene Street.

Renny Molenaar, a local artist known for his installation art pieces as part of the city landscapes of New York and Philadelphia, has been exhibiting, curating, and teaching art for 30 years and was the founder and director of the Black and White in Color Gallery in the Bronx from 1988 to 1991. Together, with his partner Rocio Cabello, a visual artist and master gardener, they dreamed of opening their own gallery in the Germantown neighborhood for the last two years, and being a part of the rejuvenation of the community's arts and culture scene that has gained momentum with organizations like the Germantown Artist Roundtable. "I love artists. I think this neighborhood is beautiful, but also very underserved, in all senses, including culturally. I think a gallery will help, and there are so many artists in this area," says Molenaar.

The gallery's mission is to provide an "alternative art space dedicated to the voice of the artist" and "lead to the creation and presentation of a wide variety of art disciplines in the gallery and in public spaces." The first exhibit will feature a variety of art that Germantown has to offer including painting, sculpture, and photography. Future summer events include outdoor performances, drumming, poetry readings, and a "last supper" fundraising dinner which will all be part of the celebratory opening months.
