Artist Receptions: Friday, July 6th and Friday, August 3rd, 5-9 pm

The Dalet Gallery, with co-curators Kate Somers and Irena Gobernik, is pleased to present two artist groups from Princeton, New Jersey, the Princeton Artist Alliance and the Princeton Photography Club. Together they prove that Princeton and its environs are thriving in the Arts. While New York City and Philadelphia may be a short train ride away, these artists do not have to travel to either city to become exposed to and inspired by great art. They have found what they need in their “collective backyard” and have banded together to nurture their creative spirits.

Founded in 1989, the Princeton Artists Alliance is a non-profit organization of twenty-two, well-established New Jersey Artists who reach out to the public through a variety of artistic and educational events. These include exhibits, workshops, artists’ talks, and open studios with wide ranging themes of international, national, and regional interest. PAA artists work with a variety of media, technique, style, and subject matter. While many of the artists have had solo shows here and abroad, they collaborate as a group on a number of thematic exhibitions. The most recent of these are: Focus on Princeton at the George Segal Gallery, Montclair State University; Pine Barrens Rediscovered at the Noyes Museum; and Revision & Voice at the Brodsky Center Gallery, New Brunswick, NJ. Other recent exhibits are concerned with the environment, including Marsh Meditations and Princeton Artists Alliance and Preservation.
The Princeton Photography Club was formed in 1982 and has grown to over 250 members. Like the Princeton Artist Alliance, diversity of style and subject matter prevails. Many of the photographers have embraced the latest imaging technology, while others have never left the world of film. Sharing all aspects of the creative process is what binds its members together as they exchange their insights and accomplishments with each other. The club holds workshops on a regular basis on all aspects of making photographic fine art. Members of The Princeton Photography Club exhibit regularly, including such venues as: the Philadelphia Museum of Art; the Noyes Museum, Oceanville, NJ; Soho Photo Gallery, New York, NY; Grounds for Sculpture, Mercerville, NJ; The Gallery at Mercer County Community College, West Windsor, NJ; The College of New Jersey, Ewing, NJ; Princeton University, Princeton, NJ; the Ellarslie Museum, Trenton, NJ; Perkins Center for the Arts, Moorestown NJ; and the Phillips’ Mill Gallery, New Hope, PA, where members have won, "Best in Show" and "Best Portfolio." B & W Magazine has recently become a favored entry point for its members, some of whom have won coveted awards.
