The Mikado, or The Town of Titipu, is a comic opera in two acts, the ninth of fourteen operatic collaborations. It opened on March 14th, 1885, in London, where it ran at the Savoy Theatre for 672 performances, which was the second longest run for any work of musical theatre and one of the longest runs of any theatre piece up to that time. The Mikado remains the most frequently performed Gilbert & Sullivan Opera. The Savoy performances feature a full professional orchestra that brings this beautiful music to life. Whether it is against the backdrop of custom-created ornate sets at Wilmington’s historic DuPont Theatre or in the tranquil setting of Longwood Gardens’ outdoor amphitheater, The Mikado is a delight for audiences of all ages!
