First performed in 1853, Giuseppe Verdi’s classic tale of love and loss in Paris sparkles in pristine HD. Beautifully staged by Robert Herzl, this dazzling production from the Opera Festival St. Margarethen in Austria features Austria’s promising Kristiane Kaiser and French tenor Jean-François Borras in the lead roles.

Founded in 1996, the Opera Festival St. Margarethen in Austria is regarded as one of the most important open-air festivals in Europe, drawing over 200,000 opera fans annually. Performed on Europe’s largest natural stage, a magnificent setting created by 2,000 years of sandstone erosion, the venue’s grandeur has allowed for operas such as Aida and Nabucco to be opulently performed with pyrotechnics, live animals, and over 400 performers on stage.

This HD broadcast is conducted by Ernst Märzendorfer, and is directed by Rudi Dolezal, Hannes Rossacher, and Robert Herzl.
