Pentimenti is pleased to present two solo exhibitions of mixed media work and installation by Jacque Liu and synthetic landscapes by Shane McAdams.

Jacque Liu works with a variety of materials to explore an idea of memory and his personal history. Liu has found that memory is an important aspect in his life, which inspired the desire to comprehend the concept of place. Liu allows himself to react to the installation site and objects before him focusing on the architectural elements such as windows, vents, and doors. Within his work he highlights the microcosms of the installation site or object to bring it new life. Liu's process is reactionary, but he tries to re-establish a piece of history (imagined or encountered) with the object or environment at hand. His installation, Milk drunk, will include works hanging from the ceiling and off the walls that will give the viewer an insight into Liu's personal amalgamation of memory and object.

Shane McAdams’ work shows a contemporary view of landscape as a subject using ballpoint pen, oil and resin. His inspiration is derived from the topography of the American southwest, where he grew up. McAdams was influenced by the way the layered strata in the rocks formed as a result of erosion with wind and water. Within his work he examines dualisms of natural vs. man-made, temporal and spatial, and objective vs. subjective and is concerned with how society views the idea of landscape. Shane compares his working process with the natural creation of a landscape using non-traditional application of materials. Through his work, he hopes to express the symmetry of actual and artificial by representing both through order and beauty. Shane's installation, Down and Out the Rabbit Hole, will show an in-depth view of representation versus abstraction of the southwest landscape with his work.
