Jazz Month: Jazz in the Wood Presents Miller Time!
April 5, 2012
April 5th will be a special edition of "Miller Time" to celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month, featuring saxophonist Mike Pracher, guitarist Brian Betz, organist Chris Simonini and drummer Jim Miller.
Born in the Midwest, Jim Miller moved in to Philly in 1977 and co-founded the "electro-jazz" group Reverie and later became part of the group Monkadelphia. Quickly, he became the go-to drummer for city artists. He has worked with Johnny Coles, John Blake, Anita O'Day, Mark Murphy, Richie Cole, Randy Brecker, Clark Terry, Cecil Bridgewater, Uri Caine, James Moody, Dave Liebman, Reggie Workman, and many others. Critics have called Miller "musically inspiring, uncompromising, observant and technically impressive" (Jazz Review) and "the orchestrational drummer of choice" (Jazz Player magazine). Miller is also known for being the founder of Dreambox Media, a jazz label with over 100 releases and the winner of Philadelphia Magazine's Best of Philly award. For this special concert, Miller and his co-conspirators will perform unique arrangements of Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk classics as well as two lesser-known John Coltrane compositions, along with a few surprises...because jazz is "the sound of surprise!"
