The male woodcock (Scolopax minor) is known for its spectacular aerial courtship display, or Sky Dance, where it spirals high into the sky, wings twittering, then tumbles downward, alternately diving and hovering while chirping melodically. Join SCEE to learn about this fascinating and elusive bird species and, if we're lucky, to see and hear one of their incredible displays.

Dress warmly and bring a flashlight. Call ahead if rainy or extremely windy weather; woodcocks prefer clear, calm, warm evenings for mating. Group meets in front of the main building of the Schuylkill Center.
