Lukens Endowed Lecture: Forces of Plant Evolution: Insights from Amelanchier
January 29, 2012
Prized by horticulturists for its brilliant spring blossoms and by wildlife for its delectable fruit, Amelanchier, a genus of native shrubs and small trees of the Rose family, exemplifies the evolutionary roles genome duplication and hybridization play in driving species diversification.
Dr. Michael B. Burgess, Research Botanist at the Morris Arboretum, will summarize our current understanding of plant evolution, and will explore research investigating speciation in Amelanchier.
