    Voices from the Heartland

Presented by Orchestra 2001 at Trinity Center for Urban Life

Orchestra 2001 premieres the seventh and final volume of George Crumb's monumental American Songbooks cycle, Voices from the Heartland (this one includes magical settings of "Old Blue," "On Top of Old Smokey" and eight others.) and present the area premiere of Boulez's Anthemes II for solo violin and live electronics, and Andriessen's tribute to the American soprano Cathy Berberian. Crumb's haunting folk song settings, Boulez's experiment in sonic virtuosity, and Andriessen's moving paean combine to make this one of Orchestra 2001's most powerful programs.
