West Philadelphia Orchestra
December 27, 2011
Location: Great Stair Hall
The West Philadelphia Orchestra is a large, raucous band of roughly 12 Philadelphia musicians who all love the spirit and sound of the brass bands of Eastern Europe. While the band members admire and emulate their heroes across the ocean, their sound is their own, cut with other traditions that each of them brings with them: free jazz, Middle Eastern, Brazilian, punk, blues and on and on.
