In fall 2010, a consortium of 24 institutions received $129 million in federal funding from seven agencies, including the U.S. Department of Energy, to create an energy innovation hub at the Philadelphia Navy Yard focused on energy efficiency in buildings. At this Town Square event, learn more about how the Greater Philadelphia Innovation Cluster (GPIC) for Energy-Efficient Buildings aims to transform the building retrofit industry. Find out about their plans to integrate the individual energy-efficient building components; improve the design tools, building systems, public policies, market incentives, and workforce skills needed to achieve a 50 percent reduction of buildings’ energy use; and stimulate private investment and quality job creation in Greater Philadelphia and beyond. Get information about the project from the Penn State management team and its other task area leaders, and hear from the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) about the role of the Navy Yard and what the project means for our region’s economy.
