Buffy Sainte-Marie’s “Universal Soldier” became an anthem for the 60s peace movement and signature classic for Donavan; she also hit the charts with “Mister Can’t You See,” Joni Mitchell’s “Circle Game” and voted Billboard's Best New Artist. Her song “Until it's Time for You to Go” was recorded by Elvis and Cher, and Buffy won Academy and Golden Globe Awards for co-writing “Up Where We Belong” from “An Officer and a Gentleman.” In addition to releasing 18 albums, Buffy won three JUNOs [Canadian Grammy], was in the cast of Sesame Street, earned a Ph.D. and became a college professor and continues to be at the forefront of indigenous issues as heard in her recording of “Buried My Heart at Wounded Knee.”
