The Commonwealth: Artist Lecture by Sonya Clark
November 10, 2011
In collaboration with Snyderman Works Gallery, PAA welcomes artist and educator Sonya Clark for a lecture and presentation about her multi-media sculpture. Sonya Clark is the chair of the Craft and Material Studies Department at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. She holds degrees from Amherst College, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Cranbrook Academy of Art. She is widely known for expanding the definition of fiber art by exploring the use of combs and the imagery of African-American women's hair in her sculptural work. Her work has been exhibited at the Museum of Arts and Design, the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, and the Newark Museum. Clark is the recipient of numerous awards including a Pollock Krasner Award in 2006.
