Laurie Anderson: Animal Stories
"I dreamed I was a dog in a dog show and my father came to the dog show and he said, 'That’s a really good dog. I like that dog.'"
— Laurie Anderson
Anderson’s performance/lecture “Animal Stories” will showcase stories and songs related to the making of her FWM exhibition. Using her signature violin and advanced electronics, the evening will also feature related pieces from her previous performance work. Laurie Anderson states, “In working on this exhibition I realized that whales, dogs, snakes, horses, ants, and many other creatures have played a big part in my work. ‘Animal Stories' will be a collection of stories about animals throughout my work life.”
Laurie Anderson’s exhibition of new multimedia installations, Forty-Nine Days in the Bardo, includes texts as well as drawings, sculptures, projections and sound which are made from materials including mud, foil, iron, chalk, and ashes. Using the structure of a diary and The Tibetan Book of the Dead—also known as The Great Liberation Through Hearing in the Bardo—this exhibition explores the themes of love and death, the many levels of dreaming, and illusion.
