Join Sonia Sanchez for the kickoff of Peace is a Haiku Song, an exciting new collaboration between First Person Arts and the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. The project explores how the poetic form of the haiku communicates personal reflections on peace and urban transformation.

At the kickoff, Sanchez will premiere a new haiku written for the project. Her poem launches a citywide collaborative haiku to which anyone can contribute. Sanchez will also lead the audience in a haiku writing experience, the products of which will become part of an art installation displayed during the First Person Festival (for more information on the installation, visit page). First Person Arts and Mural Arts will continue collecting haiku through a new website that will go live at the kickoff. The project culminates in summer 2012 with a mural honoring Sanchez.
