"Her book is among the least political, and most intimate and valuable, to have come out of the Iraq war.” —The New York Times

A honeymoon in Baghdad may sound like an oxymoron, but for Annia Ciezadlo it was the start of a rich new life. For six years, during the height of the Iraq War, Annia broke bread with Shiites and Sunnis, warlords and refugees, matriarchs and mullahs while working as a reporter with her Lebanese husband in Baghdad and Beirut. Day of Honey is her memoir of love, conflict, and the hunger for food and friendship in times of war.

Over a Lebanese dinner from Sahara Grill, Annia will read from Day of Honey and talk about how food can help us understand the turbulent events in today's Middle East.

Annia Ciezadlo was a special correspondent for The Christian Science Monitor in Baghdad and The New Republic in Beirut. She has written about culture, politics, and the Middle East for The Nation, Saveur, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The New York Observer, and Lebanon’s Daily Star. Her article about cooking with Iraqi refugees in Beirut was included in Best Food Writing 2009. Ciezadlo lives with her husband in New York.
