In Chinese heritage the Mid-Autumn Festival (aka Moon Festival) is one of the most important holidays of the year. It’s a time of great joy for the Chinese community; when families and neighbors gather together underneath the full moon and illuminated lanterns to celebrate the success of the harvest season. This inaugural event provides an opportunity for artists to perform new and traditional Chinese and multicultural music and dance and arts and crafts exhibits, including performers from the Philadelphia Music Alliance, renowned composer and Curtis Music School graduate Ya-Jhu Yang and the Celadon Youth Group orchestra. The event offers Philadelphians a glance of modern China, promoting cultural and commercial exchange between China and Philadelphia, and showcases the significant and historical role of Philadelphia in US-China trade, and how that has impacted the region’s economy.
Event partners include Independence Seaport Museum, Philadelphia Music Alliance, the Philadelphia Foundation, and the Philadelphia Eagles.
