One of Puccini’s most popular operas, Tosca is set in Rome on the eve of Napoleon’s invasion of Italy. The melodrama follows the singer Floria Tosca’s attempts to be reunited with her lover, who is entangled in a political plot. Based on Victorien Sardou’s 1887 French play, Tosca features some of Puccini’s most well-known music.

Sunday's performance will be introduced by Michael Bolton of the Opera Company of Philadelphia.

This Royal Opera House production, which is directed by Duncan Macfarland, conducted by Antonio Pappano, and stars Angela Gheorghiu and Jonas Kaufmann, runs 3 hr 34 min and is in Italian with English subtitles.
