J.D. Crowe & The New South
December 10, 2011
Banjoist J.D. Crowe is one of the most influential progressive bluegrass musicians. Developing a distinctive instrumental style melding country, folk, rock & blues, Lexington Kentucky’s J.D. Crowe has became a fixture on the bluegrass scene for almost half a century. He first joined established bands and then formed the Kentucky Mountain Boys with Red Allen & Doyle Lawson. J.D. subsequently started The New South in the 70s featuring Tony Rice, Ricky Skaggs, Jerry Douglas & Bobby Sloan, all of whom would go on to popular solo careers. Crowe continually discovers fresh, developing talents as the group became known as a source for musicians who would later go on to individual success.
