Season to Taste is so much more than your typical “overcoming personal obstacles” memoir. The reader is taken on a remarkable journey into life without a sense of smell: a sterile, almost “virtual” world. The author reveals the surprising and unexpected ways this condition, called “anosmia” can affect one’s psyche and quality of life. Along the way we meet fascinating personalities like Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, also an anosmic, as well as Dr Oliver Sacks, the famous neuroscientist. Loss of smell also means loss of taste, so not only was Molly no longer able to experience the familiar olfactory world which most people take for granted, for her it also meant that she had to give up her aspiration of becoming a professional chef. Molly eventually recovered from the physical injuries caused by the car accident which took away her ability to smell, but ultimately it changed the course of her life.
