Over five decades as first violinist of the legendary Guarneri Quartet, Arnold Steinhardt has accumulated rare insight into the violin repertoire and amassed enough stories to write an award-winning memoir, Violin Dreams. In this combination concert and lecture, the charismatic Steinhardt talks about the Bach chaconne—the masterpiece that every aspiring violinist must study and perform—and plays examples of other chaconnes that may have inspired Bach and that in turn were inspired by his.
