The Philadelphia Honey Festival aims to raise awareness about the importance of bees to our environment, the impact of local honey on our economy, and to promote urban beekeeping and gardening. The Festival is organized and hosted by the following institutions: The Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild, Bartram’s Gardens, Wyck Historic House & Gardens and the Wagner Free Institute of Science.
The Wagner Free Institute of Science is proud to kick off the second annual Philadelphia Honey Festival. Featuring: Children’s program: Pollinator Power--a lesson for children ages 6-12 on the importance of pollinators like the honeybee. Activities include a scavenger hunt, beeswax candle making and a viewing a working beehive; Adult program: So, You Think You Want to be a Beekeeper? by Suzanne Matlock--this program will cover the basics of beekeeping. In the second hour visitors can view a working beehive; Adult Program: Honey Happy Hour--sample local honey and Bitto Honey Beer from Prism Brewing Company. The Philadelphia Honey Festival will continue on September 10 at Bartram’s Gardens and Wyck Historic House & Gardens.
