New York-based REV Theatre Company will return to Philadelphia with a 2011 Philly Fringe Festival production at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Carthaginians, written by world-renowned Irish playwright Frank McGuinness, is set in a cemetery in Derry, Northern Ireland, where three women (and later four men) gather to wait for a miracle—that their dead loved ones will rise. The characters in Carthaginians are all survivors of the 1972 Bloody Sunday massacre in which fourteen unarmed Irish protestors were killed by British soldiers stationed in Derry. Using mordant and black humor, as well as densely poetic language and mythical echoes of the ancient city of Carthage, McGuinness has created a multi-layered, powerful and moving piece that focuses on forgiveness and redemption.

Audience members must bring their own blankets or beach chairs please.
