The Plant Stewardship Index (PSI) is the Preserve’s free floristic quality assessment tool that enables stewards of public and private lands to survey and assess the status of native plant populations on the properties they protect and manage. This introductory class will outline the PSI/FQI methodology, its prairie history and expansion into the Mid-Atlantic states, and some of the ways it is being used regionally to monitor and assess stewardship efforts. Land stewards are now using the PSI to identify high-quality remnant communities and to assess deer predation rebound effects, wetland health and riparian corridor setbacks.
