Dexter Wansel, Captain Sky, Steven Green & the Elevators
September 3, 2011
Dexter Wansel is known to some as Philly keyboardist who released a number of successful albums in the 70s including most notably Life on Mars and Voyager. His love of advanced technology and the fusion of rock, soul, dance and jazz led to a number of interesting pieces during his time as part of the Gamble & Huff family.
Captain Sky, known for his funk-based musical style, futuristic costumes and psychedelic imagery similar to those of George Clinton and Bootsy Collins, began recording around 1978 and released The Adventures of Captain Sky, quickly followed by Pop Goes The Captain in 1979. He has since gone on to record a number of albums and release singles on AVI Records.
Bassist Steve Green has performed on over 100 recordings, and has played his powerful spirit-filled music with artists such as Breakwater, The Tony Williams Lifetime, Patti LaBelle, Lou Rawls, Santana and Donald Byrd, just to name a few! He now leads his own inspirational neo-funk jazz gospel band, “The Elevators” – a six-piece rhythm powerhouse. This amazing recipe of top line seasoned musicians blend jazz, hip-hop, funk, gospel, rock and Afro-Cuban sounds into a magical brew designed to “elevate” the soul of all who hear it.
