Inspiring Minds: Howard Pyle as Teacher
September 17-November 17, 2011
Among many uniquely talented artists who worked as illustrators in the 19th century, the imaginative work of Howard Pyle (1853-1911) has inspired generations and raised standards for his profession. This exhibition, drawn from the Brandywine River Museum’s collection, demonstrates Pyle’s craft in depicting character and his aesthetic sensitivity in illustrating medieval tales, pirate lore, American history and allegorical subjects for publication.
