FILM

Zon-Mai
September 2-September 17, 2011
Inside a former pumping station, opposite the new Race Street Pier, is a house—some 20 feet high and wide—built of screens. Films of dancers are projected on all sides of the house. These dancers all have experience with immigration and displacement, and perform in their homes—in their bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, under and above their furniture, by their windows and refrigerators. Choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and filmmaker Gilles Delmas traveled across numerous countries to make films of these 21 dancers, and to create performances within the dancers’ most intimate and personal spaces.
