Exactly what is the "enigma" in Elgar's Variations on an Original Theme for orchestra ("Enigma")? We may never know, but we can still enjoy these fourteen charming variations on a theme that Elgar composed "to my friends pictured within." And Gautier Capuçon makes his Philadelphia Orchestra subscription debut with Schumann's noble Cello Concerto.
