Jeremy Brooks
July 1-July 31, 2011
Brooks is a master abstractionist, paring down known forms to a trace resemblance of their original selves. This ability to leave just enough information to discern the source inspiration for the work is a gift. Only through careful consideration, observation and concentration is one able to ultimately identify what it is. In other works, the subject matter is obvious, though their features have been softened, the finished work being a stylized version of its former self. Oftentimes rooted in humor, the titles of his works become important to the meaning and understanding of his work.
