Psalmships with Turning Violet Violet / Matrimony / Lion Versus
July 6, 2011
Psalmships with Turning Violet Violet / Matrimony / Lion Verses PSALMSHIPS Psalmships creates ghost folk, reeling in the minimal with atmospheric restraint. Helmed by Joshua Britton and accompanied by some of the area's most talented musicians, Psalmships' most recent release is a live album called BABY I'M WILD, and the anticipated new LP called HYMN OF LIONS is coming out in September. http://psalmships.wordpress.com/ TURNING VIOLET VIOLET Turning Violet Violet is a Folk, Indie , Rock group from Philadelphia. Think Incredible String Band and The Roches with a dash of Laura Viers thrown in. Sarah Gulish founded the band with her husband Brandon and their influences come from a lot of different places. Sarah Pisano plays viola in the band and only played classical music before she joined the group. The quintet is rounded out by bassist Steve Wittig and Jeff Scott. The creative process is a total collaborative effort and the band has been rehearsing heavily in preparation for the upcoming shows. They say, ‘We love to be together. We eat dinner and then practice for hours. We love to play together.” This certainly bodes well for a young band. http://www.myspace.com/turningvioletviolet MATRIMONY Matrimony is Ashlee Hardee Brown, Jimmy Brown, Jordan Hardee, Alex Watson and Shae Wooten. Matrimony began as a duo in 2009. With Ashlee’s Americana-rock influences and Jimmy’s Irish-folk roots, Matrimony blends modern anti-folk and indie rock in their debut EP “The Storm & The Eye” produced by Joel Khouri of Bright City Studios and self-released to critical acclaim in August, 2010. Following the release, Matrimony toured across the country and shared the stage with acts including Mumford & Sons, Gillian Welch, Modest Mouse, Langhorne Slim and Nathaniel Rateliff. In early 2011, Jordan, Alex and Shae joined Matrimony. With a common passion for songwriting and an original sound, the line up became complete. The five-piece recently concluded a tour on the east coast with a performance at SXSW in Austin, Texas. http://www.facebook.com/MatrimonyNC LION VERSUS Lion Versus emerged from the spanish moss draped oaks during one of the many hot Summers in Georgia. It was the year 2006. It rested upon the Savannah River and wove itself through the once pointed grave markers of Bonaventure Cemetery, now slumped over, unsure of their placement or origin, and much like funerals or parades it's arrival brought together the most unlikely of friends and sounds. A mixture of the low whi...rring of fanned faces, gospel and guitar, creaking porches and swaying harmonicas...but the southern coast is known for her warm gaze and cold, reckless lovers. These two combined created a storm that would carry the sounds of Lion Versus beyond the Mason-Dixon Line and into new land. Lion Versus, now Jeremy Samsoe, Bill Smyth, Hilary White and Jonathan Chin, can still be heard lingering through the iron monuments and poorly lit brick streets in The City of Brotherly Love. http://www.myspace.com/lionversus
