Dirk Brossé, conductor. Alison Balsom, trumpet. Mendelssohn, The Hebrides, Op.26 (Fingal's Cave). Hummel, Trumpet Concerto in E-flat major. Brossé, Elegy for Strings. Schubert, Symphony No. 3 in D major, D. 200. Exuberant and eloquent trumpeter Alison Balsom begins our 2011/2012 season on a high note with Hummel's Trumpet Concerto. Youth and vitality take you across the European continent as you explore the caves of Scotland through the eyes of Mendelssohn, the dances of Vienna with Schubert and a brand new work by our very own Maestro Brossé.
